The Police Statement In The Country, Said That Five Bodies Believed To Be Illegal Miners Were Found Near The Entrance To The Mine, An Area With Huts Known As Riverlea In The West Of The City Of Johannerburg.

However, Preliminary Investigation Shows That Two Rival Groups Of Illegal Miners Were Shooting Each Other In The Area, Competing For Ownership Of The Stones Found In The Quarry.

The Incident Comes Amid An Unemployment Rate Of 32 Percent In South Africa, Which Has Thousands Of Illegal Miners Nicknamed "Zama Zamas", A Zulu Word Meaning "Those Who Try."
