THE United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF) has requested 189.1 million US dollars to increase its
aid to displaced children and families in difficult situations in Somalia in
2024.
UNICEF has said that
donors have provided 4.9 million dollars by February for the prevention of
cholera and malnutrition, reducing and responding to the situation, water
supply, environmental sanitation, child protection, providing education in
emergency situations, vaccination, preventing violence against women. sexually
and help the affected people accordingly.
According to UNICEF,
children in Somalia are at risk of severe flooding, including river flooding,
during the first part of the Gu 2024 rainy season which runs from March to
early April, with the El Nino event also predicted to continue.
The United Nations agency
has added that approximately 68,676 children, of which 31,775 are girls,
affected by emergency situations, have now received opportunities to be given
education temporarily in 12 districts affected by the disaster in Somalia.
