PCCB LAUNCHES PROBE INTO UTILISATION OF SH1.8BN TASAF FUNDS

THE PREVENTION And Combating Of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) Is Investigating The Way Sh1.8 Billion In Tanzania Social Action Fund (Tasaf) Funds Were Utilised.

Furthermore, The PCCB Office In Arusha Is Also In The Process Of Taking To Court Three Individuals, Including Government Officials, For Allegations Of Embezzling Sh428 Million.

The Head Of PCCB Arusha Region, Ms Zawadi Ngailo, Told The Citizen’s Sister Paper, Mwananchi, Yesterday That The Investigations In Question Concern Seven Dubiously Executed Projects Commissioned By The Arusha City Council.

However, She Refrained From Disclosing Details Of These Projects Until The Investigations Were Completed. Ngailo Emphasised That Upon The Conclusion Of The Investigations, They Will Provide A Comprehensive Report, And Individuals Found Culpable Will Be Prosecuted.

"Indeed, We Are Currently Investigating Seven Projects Implemented By The Arusha City Council. However, We Cannot Disclose The Specifics Of These Projects At This Time. Once The Investigations Are Concluded, And If There Are Individuals To Be Prosecuted, You Will Be Informed,” She Noted.

She Added That PCCB Is Continuing With The Legal Proceedings Against Three Individuals.

Ngailo's Investigations Follow The Recent Directive From The Newly Appointed Arusha Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, Who Ordered PCCB To Expedite Investigations Into The Alleged Embezzlement Of Sh428 Million By Tasaf Officials.

Makonda Further Instructed For Scrutiny Of The Seven Tasaf Projects Valued At Over Sh1.8 Billion.

Makonda Reiterated His Commitment To Fighting Corruption Within The Region, Emphasising That No Individual, Regardless Of Their Position Or Affiliation, Will Be Spared If Found Guilty Of Corruption.

"I Do Not Care About The Status Of Any Institution's Leader, Their Political Affiliation, Or Their Rank. Once It Is Found Involved In Corrupt Practices, The Law Will Take Its Course. I Am Not Willing, And I Will Not Be Willing, To Betray My God," He Asserted.
