In A Complaint Filed In The California Supreme Court On Tuesday, August 26, Raine's Parents Stated That Their Son Had Been Using The Chatgpt Chatbot As His Best Friend And Confidant For Six Months And Had Transferred His Personal Life, Family, Friends And Loved Ones To The Ai.
The Lawsuits Come After A Series Of Lawsuits Alleging That Ai Chatbots Have Caused Young People To Self-Harm And Even Commit Suicide. Last Year, A Florida Mother Sued Character Ai, Claiming The Software Contributed To The Death Of Her 14-Year-Old Son, While Two Other Families Have Also Filed Similar Lawsuits.
The Lawsuits Also Raise Concerns That Some Users Are Developing Emotional Attachments To Ai Chatbots, Which Can Lead To Negative Consequences Such As Loneliness, Withdrawal From Human Relationships, Or Even Psychological Problems.
