IN his judgment delivered on August 28, 2025, Justice Chacha Mwita has issued a ruling preventing all Kenyan government institutions from building churches or religious institutions within the precincts of State.
House in Nairobi and other state houses in the country, until further orders are issued on November 18, 2025.
The challenge was brought before the High Court by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and the non-governmental organization Katiba Institute.
In July this year, Kenyan President William Ruto defended his decision to build a church inside the country’s State House, saying the construction was being done with his own funds.
