RESIDENTS Of Kimenerosi Street, Olasiti Ward, Arusha Have Complained About The Lack Of Clean And Safe Water For More Than Three Consecutive Months, Saying They Have Been Forced To Use River Water Which Is Unsafe For Health, Putting Them At Risk Of Epidemic Diseases Such As Cholera And Typhoid Fever.
Speaking With Pain, Some Residents Said They Are Forced To Wake Up In The Middle Of The Night To Fetch The Little Water Available In Shifts, While Others Are Receiving High Water Bills Despite The Pipes Being Dry For A Long Time, With Women And Children Said To Be The Most Affected As They Have To Walk Long Distances Every Day To Fetch Water.
Others Have Complained About Bills That Do Not Match Consumption, Claiming That Water Meters Show Unrealistically High Consumption And Have Called On The Government And The Water And Sanitation Authority (Auwsa) To Provide Immediate Responses So That The Essential Water Service Can Be Restored Without Disruption.
The Chairman Of The Street, Amani Oleusaruni, Has Acknowledged The Existence Of The Challenge And Explained That They Have Already Contacted The Relevant Department And Have Promised That Within The Next Few Days The Problem Will Be Addressed, While The Citizens Are Asking The Minister Of Water To Intervene And Ensure A Permanent Solution Is Found.
