FORMER BRAZILIAN and
Barcelona international Dani Alves is set to be released from prison pending an
appeal against his rape conviction.
Alves wants to be
released on bail of one million euros ($1.08 million), a Barcelona court said
Wednesday.
The decision came a day
after his lawyer asked for the 40-year-old's release on the grounds that he had
already served a quarter of his four-and-a-half-year sentence in pre-trial
detention in January 2023.
Dani Alves' accounts were
compromised in the court process and it seemed impossible for the defender to
pay the guarantee from his own pocket, but according to Fabrizio Romano and the
magazine 'La Vanguardia', Neymar's father will be responsible for depositing
the guarantee one million euros for the former footballer to be released from
prison.
Neymar's father has
already used this trick to pay 150,000 euros in compensation to the victim of
his sexual violence. Once Neymar's father posts bail and a new approval order
is issued, Dani Alves will be released on bail.
Alves was convicted on
February 22 of raping a woman at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. The events
took place on New Year's Eve 2022 and the player was arrested on January 20,
2023 after being called to testify.
Since then he has
remained in prison, so he has already been in prison for more than a year,
which will be removed from his sentence once he is released.
