THE INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming that the electoral system used by the Commission is linked to the National Identification Authority (NIDA) system and a political party, particularly the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), as well as claims that the voting exercise has already taken place.
The Director-General of INEC, Ramadhan Kailima, through an INEC statement dated August 23, 2025, said that the information circulating on social media is false and misleading with the aim of misleading the public and creating panic.
“Such false and misleading information is being spread by someone who has no understanding and awareness about the electoral system. The Permanent Voters Register has not been linked to any government or private institution’s system for voting purposes”, said Kailima and added,

“It should be noted that the National Identity Card is not used to vote, but only the Voter Card issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission and verified is used during voting at polling stations”, he stressed.
He added that political parties have been given the Voters' Register after the improvement exercise is completed, and party agents will use the register to identify voters on election day.
The Commission has urged citizens to ignore the information, stressing that it is being spread by people who do not understand the country's electoral system.

This statement was issued following allegations made by the former Tanzanian Ambassador to Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, on the night of August 22, 2025, where he claimed that CCM's systems were linked to those of INEC and NIDA for the purpose of controlling election results.
