THE TANZANIA Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a clarification regarding misleading information circulating on social media about the ongoing cold conditions in the country.
The false report claimed that from tomorrow until August 22, 2025, the country would experience colder weather than in previous years.
It linked the situation to Aphelion, an astronomical event that occurs naturally as the Earth orbits the sun.
However, TMA statement released today August 21, 2025, explained that Aphelion has little impact on seasonal cold weather patterns in Tanzania.
According to TMA, the months of June to August are typically the cold season in most parts of the country, when weather systems are dominated by low temperatures and strong winds.
The official seasonal forecast issued by TMA on May 22, 2025, indicated that average to slightly warm conditions are expected in many areas of the country.
TMA reminded the public and stakeholders that under the Weather Act No. 2 of 2019, it is the sole authority mandated to provide official forecasts and weather alerts. The Authority further warned that it is illegal to circulate information from unofficial sources, as outlined in sections 27 and 31(5) of the Act.
