CONTENT CREATORS in Kenya
will earn money for posting on Facebook and Instagram from June this year
following an agreement between president William Ruto and Meta leader Nick
Clegg.
In a meeting at the White
House in Nairobi, the presidential communications department agreed that the
agreement is the culmination of a year-long effort by the government to have creators
earn income from their online content as they do on other platforms such as
YouTube and X(Twitter).
"Kenyan content
creators who meet the eligibility criteria will now earn income from their
Facebook and Instagram positions when we start monetization by June this
year", said Mr. Clegg.
President William Ruto
praised the move, noting that it will open up new opportunities to generate
income for Kenyan youth, while calling on meta to integrate payments with
M-pesa.
"Now content
creators can start earning from their ideas and creativity. We are using the
digital space to create jobs for millions of unemployed youth in our
country", Ruto said.
